  • CEPAL, Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe
    ECLAC, Economic Commission for Latin America & the Caribbean - One of five regional economic commissions of the UN. Full-text statistical publications include: "Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean," "Social Panorama of Latin America," "Statistical Yearbook for Latin America and the Caribbean."

  • Inter-American Development Bank - Oldest and largest regional multilateral development institution, established in 1959 to help accelerate economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Project info, some statistical info, full-text "IDB America Magazine," photo gallery.   • Inter-American Foundation
  • - Independent U.S. agency that promotes self-help development. Programs include corporate outreach, social investment and local development. Grant opportunities for sustainable grassroots projects. "Grassroots Development" full-text.

  • International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development - ICTSD, an independent NGO, provides up-to-date news on trade and devlopment issues, i.e. FTAA and WTO updates. On-line publications include: "Bridges Monthly Review," news and analysis on trade and sustainable development, and "Bridges Weekly News Digest," news coverage on the WTO, trade and development.


  • Organization of American States - Includes history of OAS, up-to-date news on events in Latin America, on-line documents, radio and video. OAS is the umbrella and governing body for many inter-american committees and specialized organizations, including Pan American Health Organization, Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, Inter-American Agency for Cooperation and Devlopment.


  • United Nations - General information, recent news, organizational structure. Includes a large quantity of publications, some on-line, and databases that focus on economic and social development, human rights, peace and security, and international law.


  • UNESCO
  • - United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. On-line "Yearbook" with Education and Literacy, Science and Technology, Culture and Communication statistics, education database, info on World Heritage Sites, on-line photobank and videobank, full-text "UNESCO Courier," etc.

  • The United States Agency for International Development - USAID conducts foreign assistance and humanitarian aid to advance the political and economic interests of the U.S. Includes speeches and testimony from LAC officials and an Economic and Social Database for the Latin America and the Caribbean.


  • Washington Office on Latin America - WOLA plays a key role in major Washington policy debates over human rights in Latin America and monitors the impact of U.S. foreign policy on human rights, democracy and equitable development in Latin America. Detailed information and current news on human rights, political and economic policy toward the region.


  • World Bank - Excellent source of indicators and statistics for Latin America, including demographics, environment, economy, technology and infrastructure, and trade and finance. Data presented by country or by topic.


  • World Trade Organization - Access to legal texts and official documents. "International Trade Statistics 2000" on-line. Database of on-line WTO official documentation.
