Collection
Overview -- As of 2005, the combined FIU Libraries'
holdings total more than 1.4 million volumes, including government documents, microforms,
audiovisual materials and periodicals. The Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) holdings at the
FIU library system have reached an estimated 67,000 titles, exclusive of government
documents. The greatest strengths of the LAC collection lie in the areas of
history, language and literature, economics, political science and international
relations, with rapid gain registered in sociology. Regionally, the collection
is strongest on Cuba, the Caribbean and the circum-Caribbean, with substantial holdings on
Colombia and Central America as well.
