Commandante Marcos calls Mexican presidential candidates ‘sell-outs’, May 10, 2006 Commandante Marcos of the Zapatistas, who now prefers to be known as “Delegate Zero,” appeared on Mexico’s Televisa network in a rare interview, to first voice support for a teenager killed in peasant farmer clashes with police in San Salvador Atenco during an unliscensed street vendor round-up, and also to decry the three candidates for the Mexican presidency, including leftist Lopez-Obrador, as sellouts. Delegate Zero warns of “social rage,” and states that the current Mexican climate is exactly like it was in 1994 when the Zapatistas revolted in Chiapas. However, Commandante Marcos has emphasized he will not boycott the July 2 election as his Zapatista movement is dedicated to peace.
