Ruling party wins Salvadorean elections, March 13, 2006

ARENA, the right of center party of Salvadorean President Tony Saca, has appeared to gain seats in the 84 person Salvadorean legislature, as well as regional district elections, winning 32 – 5 more than were held previously. The party’s victories were held over the FLMN, a collection of leftist guerilla groups that declared a cease-fire with the government in 1992. Polls however, favor Violeta Menjivar of the FLMN for the Mayorship of San Salvador, the nation’s largest city, however.
