Largest hurricane ever poised to strike Central America, Mexico, October 19, 2005

Hurricane Wilma, the fiercest Atlantic hurricane scientists have ever recorded with sustained winds of over 175 miles per hour, minimum pressure of 882 millibars (the lowest ever recorded was 888 in 1988) and a tiny eye of 2-4 nautical miles, is poised to strike Central America after killing over 10 people in mudslides in Haiti. The effects of Wilma include a rise in the price of oil, as a result of predictions it might strike refineries on Mexico’s coast, and the cancellation of the MTV Latin American music awards in Mexico’s Playa del Carmen resort town.
