El Salvador shelters hurricane, volcano refugees, October 5, 2005

Temporary shelters have been constructed in the western Salvadorean city of Santa Ana for over 16,668 refugees, in order to protect them from the mudslides and flooding rocking the central portion of the country as a result of Hurricane Stan, which has caused El Salvador’s rivers to overflow. This is the second “red alert” state of emergency the Salvadorean National Emergency commission has filed in recent days since the October 1st eruption of the Llamatepec volcano.
