Peru rocked by 7.5 Earthquake, September 26, 2005

Over 100 homes were destroyed, 20 people were injured, 10 people were confirmed killed and power and telephone lines were entirely disrupted by an earthquake that struck northern Peru at 7.5 on the Richter scale. The earthquake was felt away as far as the capital city of Bogota, Colombia. The earthquake also caused the collapse of more than 100 feet of wall at a prison in San Cristobal, and the national Peruvian security forces were dispatched to prevent the escape of inmates.
