"Volcano of Fire" erupts in Mexico, June 7, 2005

A plume of smoke five miles in the air sprang from Mexico’s "Volcano of Fire," Culima, in the most devastating eruption since 2002, which has prompted evacuations of sparsely populated rural areas 300 miles from the volcanic mountain. In addition to the smoke, the Volcano also belched poisonous gases, fire rocks, and lava. This is the mountain’s largest and third major explosion in three weeks. Culima is Mexico’s most active volcano, second to Popocatepetl, located near Mexico city.
