Nicaraguan President stoned for bus fare hike, April 27, 2005

President of Nicaragua Enrique Bolanos had rocks hurled at him by student protestors, which delivered minor head wounds to his son, U.S. dwelling businessman Enrique Bolanos, Jr. The source of the unrest was a price hike for buses triggered by rising fuel costs, from 15 U.S. cents, to 18 cents. The conservative Enrique Bolanos has refused to use government subsidies to prevent a price hike. Bolanos blames the attack as being politically motivated by the opposition party, the Sandinistas. Bolanos has also been increasingly unpopular as a result of the raise, and it is estimated the rally had over 10,000 participants chanting for him to resign.
