Anti-Crime Candidate Wins Honduras Primary, February 22, 2005

Porfiro Pepe Lopez, currently the leader of Hondura’s Congress, won his National Party’s nomination for President in the first simultaneous primary of both parties before the November Election. Porfiro Pepe Lopez’s most controversial position is his support of the Death Penalty, in the event of severe crimes such as murder, rape, and kidnapping. In December, a group of armed men shot an entire bus, leaving behind a note threatening further violence if the Death Penalty is restored, after being declared illegal in the 1950s.
