Many Missing and Feared Dead as Floods Strike Venezuela and Colombia, February 14, 2005

Rescue workers in Venezuela continue to search for people missing in floods, as the death toll rises to at least 37. Heavy rains have contributed to the swollen Mocoties River and landslides, resulting in flooding in the town of Santa Cruz de Mora. Meanwhile in north-central Colombia, the death toll from flooding is 25. The overflowing of the Oro and Frio rivers in Colombia has displaced over 25,000 people and destroyed many of the shantytowns that line the rivers.
