Guyana Receives International Aid for Flooding, January 25, 2005

International aid and response is already underway to aid Guyana in the worst flooding of that Caribbean nation’s history, with over 1 meter in many places. The Brooklyn, New York-based Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, Roy A. Hastick, Sr., announced the organization would be rallying financial assistance for the disaster. The Inter-American Development bank announced a gift of $200,000 in assistance for the worst rainfall in a century. Some of the international aid for Guyana is requested of Neighbor Trinidad, where Guyanese President Bharrat Jagdeo met with Trinidad Prime Minister Patrick Manning for pumps to remove between 5-6 feet of water.
