Sandinistas Claim Nicaraguan Municipal Victory, November 9, 2004

The Sandinista Front, a leftist political party in Nicaragua, claimed victory in mayoral elections. This includes mayoral elections in Managua, where Sandinistas retook the Mayor’s position, electing Sandinista Dionisio Marenco over Pedro Joaquin Chamarro of the ruling Liberal Constitutionalist Party. The Sandinistas lead the popular vote as well in over 151 counties, with over 70% of the ballots counted.
