Chilean Left Welcomes Bush with Lawsuit, October 28, 2004

In response to President Bush’s expected arrival in Chile in November for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Council Summit, a coalition of Chilean leftist political parties, including the Humanist Party, the Communist Party, and the Leftist Revolutionary Movement have filed a lawsuit at the Santiago Appeals Court in response to prisoner mistreatment. The suit is not expected to yield progress; rather, the filers expect it to be entirely a symbolic measure described as an “act of dignity” that would lead to the United States’ president being asked hard questions on arrival.
