Pro-Aristide Violence in Haiti Leaves 7 Dead, October 3, 2004

Violence erupted in Port-au-Prince, resulting in the deaths of 7 people, at least 3 of whom were police officers. Sources indicate that the violence can be attributed to pro-Aristide gangs, who have denounced the removal of Aristide, the current government and the presence of foreign troops in Haiti. Cite Soleil is reported to be the center of this violence, because of its strong Aristide and Lavalas Family support. This violence comes on the heels of relief efforts stemming from Hurricane Jeanne.
