Tropical Storm Jeanne hits Puerto Rico, September 16, 2004

In Puerto Rico, over a thousand people in lowland flood-prone areas were evacuated to high-ground shelters, as over 16 inches of rains from Tropical Storm Jeanne blocked and flooded roads and homes, homes were buffeted by 80 miles per hour winds. The storm will continue to do so until Friday, September 16, when the tail of it moves past St. Croix. Already, two people have been reported dead: one when a tree fell on his car, another from falling off a roof when the victim was placing storm shutters. Sustained damage has been obtained to Puerto Rico's plantain, banana and coffee crops according to agricultural officials.
