Angry Mexican Mob Places Mayor in Prison, August 9, 2004

Accusing them of embezzling money from public works projects, the mostly indiginous-descended "Indian" persons that compose the town of San Juan Chamula, in a raid captured and placed into prison the Mayor, Juan Gomez, as well as his treasurer and two town aldermen. The revolt was believed to have been caused by evidence that the Mayor falsified documents concerning rainwater cisterns, roads and other projects, that were never constructed.
