Mudslide Traps Tourists at Machu Picchu, April 15, 2004

A mudslide blocked the only road in and out of Aguas Calientes, a town near Machu Picchu, stranding 300-400 tourists. In addition, a second avalanche buried the rail lines, hampering any attempt at rescue efforts by closing the only means into Aguas Calientes. President Toledo has given orders to send helicopters to bring the stranded tourists back home.
