Chavez visits Guyana, February 18, 2004

Arriving in the capital of Georgetown greeted by President Bharrat Jagdeo, Venezuelan head of state made a visit to the nation of Guyana, calling the English-speaking nation a "brother" nation. On the agenda for discussion is the sale of Venezuelan petroleum products to Guyana for preferential rates, in a similar arrangement to the free-trade agreements of North America. Chavez played down the two nations' rivalry over the Essequibo region, hoping to place the conflict behind them.
