U.S., Canada Deny Guyanese Minister Travel Visa, February 5, 2004

Guyananese Home Affairs Minister Ronald Gajraj was denied travel visas to the U.S. and Canada, stemming from allegations that he organized an extra-judicial hit squad which targeted suspected criminals. This hit squad has been accused and linked to over 40 deaths by opposition, rights groups and victims' family members. Gajraj denied the accusations, but acknowledged his dealings with criminal figures for "national security" reasons.
