Mexico Accepts Peace Corps for First Time, January 25, 2004

Mexico has decided to accept the arrival of Peace Corps volunteers from the United States for the first time, a decision made in November from a nation concerned over US influence with a history of being critical of US experts. Nevertheless, the first 15 Peace Corps volunteers will not be held in the homes of people, as is the custom that is traditionally the case, nor will the operate in rural repair, health and education; they will be isolated in research facilities for technology and scientific developments.
