FTAA Talks in Miami, November 20, 2003

The Miami meeting of representatives from 34 countries to discuss the Free Trade of the Americas Agreement is facing many barriers to consensus.  Speculation about an "FTAA Lite," which would weaken the overarching trade rules that the U.S. wants, as well as numerous protesters arguing that the FTAA would have very negative impacts on Latin America and the Caribbean, are making compromise appear impossible.
