Former Dictator Pinochet Hospitalized, November 7, 2003

Auguste Pinochet was hospitalized on Friday, November 7, after breaking his left wrist after becoming dizzy and falling in the bathroom in his coastal home 66 miles west of Santiago. Doctors worked to repair the damage at the Santiago Army Military Hospital. The 87 year old Pinochet was declared mentally unfit to stand trial by Chile's Supreme Court for atrocities committed under his rule from 1973-1990, including the unexplained disappearance of more than 3,000 political opponents. This is Pinochet's third hospitalization of 2003.
