Thousands of Hondurans Protest, Criticizing IMF Accord, October 16, 2003

Thousands of people in the capital of Tegucigalpa took to the streets to demand that the government not renew a debt-payment agreement with the IMF.  Critics of the IMF argue that in order to pay debts, countries are forced to cut back on government spending, especially social programs.  Honduras is currently facing economic difficulty due to a drop in prices of its main exports.
