Anti-government Demonstrations in Bolivia, October 15, 2003

Anti-government demonstrations in La Paz have resulted in the death of over 50 people (mostly Indian protesters), demanding the resignation of Bolivia's President Sanchez de Lozada.  The protests stem largely from a plan to export natural gas from Bolivia to the U.S. and Mexico through Chile.  The president is also facing increasing political pressure, as former allies distance themselves and several cabinet ministers suspend their participation in the government.
