US Sends Intercepted Migrants Back to Cuba, July 20, 2003

The US decided to return to Cuba over a dozen migrants intercepted at sea, a decision praised in Havana. The decision was made after the Cuban government promised that it would not sentence any of them to more than ten years in prison. This comes after three men were executed by a firing squad in April after they tried to hijack a ferry to the US. Cuban-American leaders have been vocal that the US not repatriate any more Cubans unless Castro's government can guarantee that none will be executed.
