The Mexican Elections, July 9, 2003

Sunday, July 6, 2003 elections in Mexico showed a resounding midterm defeat for President Fox's National Action Party. Changes in Congressional and gubernatorial seats have strengthened Fox's opposition and has led, according to an Associated Press article, to the president's concession that the rest of the term before the 2006 presidential elections wil focus on "consensus."

Of particular interest among the following news links is the National Security Archive's posting of recently released documents from the US Government that reveal the extent to which Mexico's PRI party would go to secure election victory at certain times during its seven-decade rule.
