Mexico Won't Accept a Unilateral US Decision on Iraq, March 4, 2003

On Tuesday, March 4th, Mexico's President, Vicente Fox, said Mexico would not support unilateral action against Iraq. Mexico, a UN Security Council member, has not yet confirmed how it would vote on a US-backed resolution. As important congressional elections draw near, Fox is aware that voting in favor of the resolution might alienate many Mexican voters who oppose war. Fox is also trying to calm the concerns of those, especially in the business sector, who fear that a vote against the US would endanger economic relations between the two countries.
