A U.S. Government plane crashed during an emergency landing attempt in Florencia, Colombia on February 13, 2003. The plane carried five passengers, four of which were American. Two were found dead at the site, though it is unclear as to whether they died as a result of the crash. The three survivors are thought to have been captured by leftist rebels in the region, though no group has issued a statement. The passengers on the plane were involved in a U.S. sponsored drug-eradication program in Colombia, though the U.S. Embassy has not yet commented on which branch of the U.S. government by whom the mission was sponsored.
