Argentina's President Resigns, December 21, 2001

Argentina's President Fernando de la Rua resigned on Thursday, December 20, after days of chaos and rioting in the streets by Argentina's poor and middle classes. Argentina has been in severe economic crisis for the past 12 months. Peronist Ramon Puerta, as head of the Congress, will temporarily take charge of the country.
