Díaz-Ayala Cuban Music Collection Library Travel Grants - Awards, March 2006

The FIU Libraries and the Cuban Research Institute are pleased to announce the winners of the 2006 Díaz-Ayala Cuban Music Collection Library Travel Grant awards.

  • Juliet Hill, Ph.D. Student at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London University, will be working on "The Piano in the Cuban Conjunto 1940-1951."
  • Licia Fiol-Matta, faculty at Lehman College, City University of New York, will be working on "Latin Music: Gender Narratives, Female Figurations."
As a condition of the grant, awardees will submit a summary of their findings from their use of the Collection, as well as any suggestions they may have regarding the accessibility of the Collection itself.

Ms. Hill and Dr. Fiol-Matta will also present their current research at a lunchtime lecture while they are on campus. Both awardees will be at FIU sometime this May or June. Stay posted for the dates of their presentations.
