LACIC Participates in GIS Day, February 2006

LACIC is currently featuring a display on the Andean Amazon GIS Web Portal (AAGWP). The AAGWP is a web GIS portal designed to acquire, harvest, and publish standardized geospatial and attribute data about the physical and socioeconomic environments with a focus on the Andean Amazon region of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Perú.

This display was developed to coincide with the FIU Libraries' GIS Day, hosted by the GIS-RS Center, on February 3, 2006. The GIS-RS Center presented a day-long series of lectures, workshops and exhibits showcasing the many applications of GIS. Topics included a general introduction to GIS, use of census data for community demographic analysis, uses of LIDAR airborne measurements, an interactive 3D hurricane environmental analysis system, 3D visualization and application of GIS for a variety of projects in the Andean Amazon.

Ruth Holbrook, LACIC Assistant, developed the display and it can be viewed in LACIC until April 2006.
