Díaz-Ayala Cuban Music Collection Library Travel Grants - Awards, May 2005

The FIU Libraries and the Cuban Research Institute are pleased to announce the winners of the Summer 2005 Díaz-Ayala Cuban Music Collection Library Travel Grant awards.

  • David Garcia, non-tenured faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill, will be working on "The Mambo's Musical Development in the Recordings of Cuban Charangas and Big Bands, 1930s-1945," June 15, 2005 to June 30, 2005.
  • Robin Moore, tenured faculty at Temple University, will be working on "An Analysis of Cuban Rumba," June 15, 2005 to June 26, 2005.
  • Galina Bakhtiarova, non-tenured faculty at University of Southern California, will be working on "Empires of the Habanera: Cuba in the Transatlantic Cultural Imagination," June 21, 2005 to June 30, 2005.
All awardees have been asked to give a brown-bag lecture about their work if time permits.
