A new display in LACIC showcases books on a variety of music from Latin American and the Caribbean. The books are part of a significant donation by Cristóbal Díaz-Ayala, an avid collector and musicologist.
Díaz-Ayala's donation of the Cuban and Latin American Popular Music Collection to FIU Libraries includes 25,000 LPs, 14,500 78 rpms, 4,000 pieces of sheet music, 4,500 cassettes, 2,500+ books, and thousands of CDs, photographs, videos and paper files. The massive collection includes music from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, with a substantial part consisting of Cuban music. The collection is currently held in the Sound and Image Department on the 5th floor of the Green Library.
