New Display Features Books from the Díaz-Ayala Donation, December 2004

A new display in LACIC showcases books on a variety of music from Latin American and the Caribbean. The books are part of a significant donation by Cristóbal Díaz-Ayala, an avid collector and musicologist.

Díaz-Ayala's donation of the Cuban and Latin American Popular Music Collection to FIU Libraries includes 25,000 LPs, 14,500 78 rpms, 4,000 pieces of sheet music, 4,500 cassettes, 2,500+ books, and thousands of CDs, photographs, videos and paper files. The massive collection includes music from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, with a substantial part consisting of Cuban music. The collection is currently held in the Sound and Image Department on the 5th floor of the Green Library.

The Cuban Research Institute and the FIU Libraries have just announced a new Library Travel Grant to support research and use of this collection during 2005-2006! Click here for more information on the Díaz-Ayala Cuban and Latin American Popular Music Collection Travel Grants.
