Electronic Approval Plan for Argentine Books, Fall 2000

FIU Libraries began an electronic approval plan for the purchase of Argentine materials in the Fall of 2000. Working with Librería García Cambeiro, this approval plan will allow the library to acquire new Argentine imprints in a timely manner and to develop a well balanced collection.

Approximately once every 3 weeks, Librería García Cambeiro sends an electronic message of 20 recent imprints, complete with bibliographic information, annotations and author information, for our approval. These materials are selected by Librería García Cambeiro based on profile guidelines established in accordance with the collection development policy of FIU Libraries. This profile can be revised and updated as needed

Since the initiation of this plan, FIU has purchased more than 250 Argentine imprints from the years 2000 and 2001. The materials cover all subjects, with Argentine literature, literary criticism, Argentine and Latin American history, political science and economics being the best represented.

FIU Libraries is in the process of developing approval plans with additional Latin American and Caribbean countries. For more information about the Argentine plan or other plans, please contact Catherine Marsicek, Latin American & Caribbean Information Services Librarian, at (305) 348-2228 or marsicek@fiu.edu.
