LASER Meeting, February 2001

The Latin American Studies Southeast Region Libraries held a working meeting at the Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill campuses from February 24-25, 2001. LASER is a regional consortium whose librarians work cooperatively in such areas as reference and collection development. This meeting was very generously funded in part with Duke-UNC Title VI funds. Representatives from Duke, FIU, University of Miami, Tulane, UNC-Chapel Hill, University of Georgia and Vanderbilt were present.

Topics discussed in February included:

  • Expansion of union lists for microform and video collections
  • Consortial purchase of microform sets and electronic resources
  • Participation in KUDZU, a catalog of the holdings in Southeast libraries
  • Development of the LASER webpage
LASER has published, via the Internet, a Newspaper Union List of Latin American and Caribbean held by LASER libraries. This list is extremely useful when looking for access to LAC newspapers and the possibility of Interlibrary Loan from a neighboring institution.
