500+ Andean Materials Gifted by Visiting Professor, May 2005

Dr. Francisco Thoumi, a visiting professor and researcher from Colombia, generously donated a substantial gift from his personal collection of over 500 books and journals on the Andean region. The donation includes materials documenting economic development, regional integration and the narcotics trade in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, with some additional materials from Venezuela and Bolivia. This donation includes a complete set of "Revista de planeación y desarrollo," from the late 1960s to the late 1990s.

Dr. Thoumi has written extensively on regional integration and, most recently, on narcotics trafficking and its economic, social and political implications for countries like Colombia and Peru. LACC published (2001) a working paper by Dr. Thoumi, entitled Illegal Drugs in Colombia: From Illegal Economic Boom to Social Crisis.

Dr. Thoumi recently returned to Colombia after his stay as a Senior Visting Scholar at the Latin American and Caribbean Center. He was also active in the Colombian Studies Institute, a Center within LACC. FIU Libraries is grateful for this very generous donation.
