Reference Collection, Spring 2001

Many key reference sources were recently received to add to the growing Latin American and Caribbean reference collection at the Green Library. These resources can be found on the 2nd floor of the Green Library in the Reference Department. These works include:

  • Afro-Brazilian religions : a selective annotated bibliography, 1900-1997 / Compiles scholarly and popular literature, in Portuguese and English. Most up-to-date source for locating publications on Afro-Brazilian religion. Some annotations Includes a glossary of terminology. REF BL2590.B7 O45 1998
  • Asians in Latin America : a partially annotated bibliography of select countries and people / 1000 entries of major works and articles discussing the history and the contributions of Asians in Latin America. Many entries are annotated. Organized by Latin American country. REF Z1609.A84 C46 2000
  • Atlas lingüístico de México / Authoritative work on the Spanish spoken in Mexico. Includes Mesoamerican influence. In map format. UP Map Collection PC4831 .A85 1990
  • Census records for Latin America and the Hispanic United States / A listing of over 4000 censuses from Latin America, some from as far back as the 1600s, with information on where they are located. Most complete survey of LA and the Hispanic US, but does not include the Caribbean. REF CS95 .P53 1998
  • Cuba, Cubans and Cuban-Americans, 1902-1991: a bibliography / Bibliography of 900 dissertations relating from U.S., Canadian and British institutions. Deal with all subject areas, from literature to political science. REF F1758 .D67 1992
  • Cuba investment and business guide, 1999 / Economic situation, import/export regulations, business and investment laws, US relations with Cuba. REF HG5251 .C83
  • Dictionary of Chicano folklore / Basic definitions of Chicano folklore and culture (i.e. duendes, pintos, la llorona, la migra, Cinco de Mayo, pachucos, low riders). Includes references to additional research sources.
  • Encyclopedia of contemporary Latin American and Caribbean cultures / Seeks to trace the interconnections between cultures in Latin America. Includes important cultural events, sites, moments, art, literature, music from 1920 to the present. Arranged alphabetically, but also includes a very helpful listing by country and by subject.   • French Guiana / Annotated entries on books and articles dealing with the history, geography, economy and politics, people, culture, customs, current living conditions of French Guiana. Excellent for anyone doing research on this area. REF F2448 .C73 1998
  • Historia ilustrada de la civilización uruguaya / 60 folletos documenting Uruguayan history, literature, art, culture, politics from colonial times to 1968. REF F2701 .H5
  • Latin American women artists of the United States : the works of 33 twentieth-century women / Identifies major Latin American women contributors to the arts, who have worked or lived in the United States. Includes a biography, an analysis and examples of work for each artist. REF N6538.H58 H46 1999
  • Reference guide to Latin American history / Presents brief synopses of significant events in Latin American history from the pre-Columbian period to 1999. Arranged chronologically by country and by topic. Also includes biographies of 300 notable figures in LA history. REF F1410 .H463 2000
